The Lagos State Government has handed over two teachers of Nazareth Junior/Senior College, Ibowon, Epe, who were alleged to have defiled some pupils of the school to the police.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Adesina Odeyemi, who disclosed this in his office on Thursday, said that the arrest followed the confession by the teachers to sexual abuse at a Personnel Management Board meeting to investigate the allegation.
According to Odeyemi, the recommendations of the PMB would be implemented to the letter by the state government as a way of demonstrating its zero tolerance for child abuse.
He explained that the pupils, who were the complainants, had offered statements at the Lagos State Police Command, adding that steps towards prosecution would be taken as soon the police concluded their investigation.
Odeyemi added that in line with established procedures, the government had ordered a comprehensive medical examination for the pupils to aid investigations on any pupil found to have been abused and traumatised by the event would undergo necessary counselling and rehabilitation at appropriate government agencies
